What Floats Your Boat?

Grades 2-4

This program is great at helping students acquire an understanding of the law of floatation otherwise known as Archimedes’ principal and the buoyant force. Demonstrations and a classroom aluminum foil boat competition help to build an understanding of this concept.

The Weather

Grades 2-4

This program features two aspects of our weather: the water cycle and air pressure.  Students gain a true understanding of the science concepts that determine our weather through an aquifer model and lots of cool demonstrations. Added extras, such as learning how snow is made at ski resorts, make this program a lot of fun.

Science Smorgasbord Assembly

Grades 2-4

A very visually assembly with entertaining experiments on water, air, and electricity.  The program is designed for up to 2 classes of students at once and can be done as a mulit-age presentation.  A smaller audience provides children with a chance to interact in the demonstrations and share their ideas on conserving and protecting these resources.

Widening the View of Watersheds

Grades 3-5

What is a  watershed and why is it important?  Two models are used to show  how water enters a watershed.  Learn how to define a watershed like a scientist.  Students will model the everyday activities that occur in a watershed to learn how land-use affects water quality.

Making Electrifying Connections

Grades 3-5

Renewable or non-renewable energy sources are introduced.  Next students role-play policy makers to decide the best use of electricity because their town is  facing the threat of rolling black-outs. The program ends with a Van de Graaf generator– a shocking good time.

Energy! Energy! Energy!

Grades 4-6

Potential or kinetic?  Nuclear? Chemical? Mechanical? Electrical? Learn the form. Learn the source. Investigate the relationship between potential and kinetic energy in a hands-on experiment. Then students divide into teams to play the Energy Challenge Game and try to identify the energy conversions.

Improving the Table Skimmer

Grades 3-6

Students get a chance to build and improve upon the table skimmer. A challenge that also about variables and trials while introducing the concept of engineering.
